Headstone of Revolutionary War veteran Lemuel Rose (1764-1835)
Granville's Old Colony Burying Ground boasts the gravesites of 23 American Revolutionary War veterans -- probably the third-largest number of all graveyards in Ohio.
On July 3rd from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m., visitors to the Old Colony will be able to "meet the Patriots" as members of the Hocking Valley Sons of the American Revolution, dressed in period military uniform, bring the veterans to life at their headstones. Portraying 10 of Granville's Revolutionary soldiers, SAR members will narrate the veterans' wartime experiences. Rumor has it that there will be activities and games for kids, along with the chance to be photographed with George Washington!
Want to visit the soldiers’ graves sooner than July 3rd? Starting Memorial Day weekend, all the headstones of Revolutionary patriots’ in Old Colony will be decorated with red, white, and blue bows, with laminated tags identifying each veteran. The decorations will remain on the headstones through July 4th. Self-guided tour maps of the sites will be available in the flyer mailbox just inside the north entry-gate on S. Main Street.
When: July 3, 3036, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Where: Old Colony Burying Ground, 300 S Main St, Granville, OH 43023
This event is free and open to the public
