The Granville Historical Society is proud to be a partner in the commissioning of the F. Trevor Gamble Legacy Symphony.
The F. Trevor Gamble Legacy Symphony will add to the historic preservation of Granville in a unique and creative way by providing a "soundtrack of history" inspired by one of its cherished icons, Dr. F. Trevor “Trig” Gamble.
The work will celebrate important aspects of Dr. Gamble's life -- from his days as a Navy pilot in the Korean War to his wisdom and guidance as Dean of Students at Denison University in the 1970s.
The Society has commissioned the Symphony by Ching-chu Hu, Professor of Music and Director of the Vail Series at Denison University.
The Symphony will be premiered by the Denison University Orchestra on November 10, 2026 at a free concert at Swasey Chapel open to the public.

Composer, Ching-chu Hu
Dr. Ching-chu Hu
Ching-chu Hu, Professor of Music and Director of the Vail Series at Denison University, is an award-winning composer whose music has been performed nationally and internationally. Reviews describe his music as “breathtaking,” (AllMusic), “richly textured,” (Charleston Post and Currier), and “incredible” (The Columbus Dispatch).
Ching-chu has been commissioned several times. He recently captured history through his piece “Please Remember Me,” which honored Danny Crothers, a young Marine from Newark, Ohio, who was killed in action in the Vietnam War. Other commissions include works for the Granville Bicentennial Committee and the University of Iowa School of Music’s Centennial celebration.
