Board Meetings: New Year, New Policy

  • The Granville Historical Society Po Box 129 Granville, OH 43023 (map)

The general public is now welcome to attend Granville Historical Society Board of Managers meetings.

This comes as a result of a change in policy approved at the Society’s annual meeting on Nov. 30, 2022, that originally closed all board meetings to the public, with non-board members in attendance only if invited.

The new policy reads as follows: “While the Executive Committee and Board of Managers reserve the right to close board meetings, board meetings may be open to the public. Visitors in attendance may speak for a maximum of two minutes per person during a 15-minute time period at the beginning of the meeting. Visitors must fill out a speaker’s slip when they arrive.

Members of the public may remain for the rest of the meeting unless an executive session is called to discuss personnel or other matters.

“We’re very happy to welcome members or anyone from the general public to our meetings,” said Heidi Drake, current president of the Board of Managers. “We love to see people participating on any level.”

The board presently meets at 5 p.m. on the third Monday of the month in the Robinson Research Center (the new addition behind the museum at 115 East Broadway, downtown). Visitors may enter through the brown door down the alley on the church side of the building.

The Board of Managers is made up of the following: Heidi Drake, president; Chuck Peterson, vice-president; Amy Welsh, secretary; Kim Manley, treasurer; at-large board members Jennifer Graham, Elizabeth Wilson, Greg Dixon, Sam Schnaidt, Evelyn Frolking, Erik Yassenoff, Christina Gray, and Steve Thaxton; Youth Board Member Ethan White; and Emeritus board members Tom Martin and Cynthia Cort.
